Port Elizabeth is South Africa's second oldest city and also the commercial capital of the Eastern Cape. It is situated on the South Eastern Coast of South Africa. Port Elizabeth is commonly known as PE, "the friendly city" and the "windy city". PE enjoys great all year-round weather, beautiful beaches with 40km of unspoiled coastline, shopping, and the boardwalk casino. The South African currency is Rands and cents. Foreign currency can be exchanged at any bank or foreign exchange outlet. Most stores, restaurants and hotels accept credit cards. Banking hours are 09h00 - 15h30 Monday - Friday and Saturdays 08h30 - 11h00. On arrival at the airport, shuttle companies offer transfers to your required destination and taxi's are available. Taxi's are also available from all major hotels. Car rental is also a good option to get around the city. The same standard voltage and frequency as in most European countries, 220/230 Volts at 50Hz even though the type of plugs varies. You can usually borrow an adapter at your hotel. It is normal to tip golf caddies, taxi drivers, hotel and railway porters, chambermaids, stewards, waiters, barmen and tour guides. The accepted average is 10-15%. There is a Tourism Safety Forum to help visitors have a safe stay. You'll see people with jumpsuits in the colours of the South African national flag, and with the words TOURISM AMBASSADOR on them. Donkin Heritage Trail - a 5km walking trail in the old Hill area of Central Port Elizabeth that links 47 places of historical interest. The Boardwalk Casino and Entertainment World - Located opposite Hobie Beach, the complex is set around a series of man-made lakes and beautiful gardens. The complex is open 24 hours a day and has a mix of restaurants, entertainment venues, specialist shops, a Craft Workshop as well and Cinema. Township Tours - Port Elizabeth's townships - outlying satellite suburbs - are steeped in history and culture. You'll meet real people and find out about the real issues of this diverse country. Township tours provide brief facts on settler history, as well as the impact of the apartheid era on Port Elizabeth. Bayworld - The Bayworld museum blends the cultural and natural history of South Africa. See prehistoric dinosaurs, ethnic handcraft and a variety of historical treasures. The halls have fully rigged models of early sailing ships, salvaged artefacts, marine animals, local fish and fossils. There si also an oceanarium. No. 7 Castle Hill Museum - one of the oldest surviving Settler cottages in Port Elizabeth. This picturesque family dwelling dates back to 1827 and reflects the history and elegant lifestyle enjoyed by English middle-class families in Port Elizabeth at the time. CLIMATE
